Western Toad Data Entry

Help compile public reports of Western Toad observations and, ideally, upload them to iNaturalist.

What:

Nature Squamish collects Western Toad observations from trail users through social media campaigns and signage at Alice Lake Provincial Park. These observations are submitted by email and need to be compiled into a tracking spreadsheet. Ideally, the observations are also uploaded to iNaturalist by the observer, or by Nature Squamish on their behalf.

Tasks include:

• Review emailed observations.
• Request clarification from observers when needed, such as for the date, time, or exact location.
• When necessary, use visual or descriptive clues to determine observation locations and drop a pin on a mapping app to obtain GPS coordinates.
• Enter observation data into the tracking spreadsheet.
• (optional) Coordinate with observer to get complete observations into iNaturalist.
• Volunteers are expected to be positive ambassadors for Nature Squamish in all communications.

Where:

The tracking spreadsheet lives online, in our Nature Squamish GDrive. Work can be completed remotely.

When:

This is an ongoing project to compile several years of data. We anticipate an average commitment of about 1-2 hours per week. The schedule is flexible, but we’re looking for someone who will work consistently toward completing the approximately 150 observations.

Skills:

• A computer and reliable internet connection are essential, as this work is completed remotely.
• Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
• Experience or familiarity with the following is an asset:
  • Squamish trails and local geography
  • Google Drive and Google Sheets
  • Latitude/longitude and UTM coordinate formats
  • Mapping apps, including viewing and plotting locations and extracting GPS coordinates
  • iNaturalist
